Charity watched. One of the best things Charity did was watch. She was pleased at Rurik's responce, the metaphor justified. She cold all but imagine the hackles raising at the two men raged a war. She let out a low giggle, justoud enough to only let Rurik she approved. She could also see the way Rurik had raised her hackles then smoothed them down as if she was a cute little puppy all but eager for the attention. But she wasn't!
Was she?
Charity hadn't missed the all but intimate moment they had shared. Probably not the most romantic by many people's standards but to watch a boy tell another off have Charity a thrill. It showed her how much straight and willpower he had. A man line Rurik would not challenge and boy in such a way if he wasn't confident about himself.
"That was pretty attractive, Rurik, I've guessed you've earned the right to call me Charity. Most don't to my face. Except Malfoy..." Charity beckoned to the boy behind her, turning to look at him.

Charity’s approval was all Rurik needed. It no longer mattered who tried to challenge him. Rurik had known from the moment he saw her that Charity was who everyone in Slytherin looked to. She was the Queen bee. She had also just proven that she commanded the whole school, something very amorous to Rurik, especially now that he had gained his place as one of the top. It’s where he belonged. He would not follow anybody.
As Charity motioned to the blonde sitting behind her, Rurik was forced to acknowledge who she called Malfoy. He had been the one with the ugly scowl on his face… Rurik raised his eyebrow at the boy, issuing his challenge. Obviously Charity had pointed it out for a reason. Malfoy apparently was also well followed, maybe even Charity’s counterpart? Rurik would make sure that Malfoy lost his pedestal if it came down to it.

Charity didn't need to have been turned to see the obvious distrust between the two. Draco's eyes narrowed, a sure sign that Rurik had already gotten cocky. To get cocky with Draco Malfoy of all people. Charity shook her head as Draco met her eyes, begging him not to cause a scene. In responce, Draco wrapped his arm around Charity's waist and all but roughly dragged her the few inches so she was flush against his side.
Charity missed the look that Draco threw over her head. A look that so obviously said "Don't try anything. New kid" Charity grimaced and turned back to Rurik. She took a small sip of pumpkin juice from her goblet and glared at Rurik. She shook her head at him in clear annoyance.
"Now look what you've done. You being all charismatic and stuff." Charity broke off, raising an eye row. " Now I'm stuck being treated like a ward." Charity voice was low enough that, leaning towards Rurik, kept Malfoy from hearing.

Rurik winked at Charity. If that was how it was going to be played, let the games begin.
Rurik took up his glass, smirking a victorious smile. Malfoy was obviously very comfortable in his place. He had, however, revealed himself. Rurik now knew exactly how to push Malfoy’s buttons. One, Charity. Two, challenge his authority.
Rurik took a closer look at everyone around him. They had all been very quiet during the scene, but many of them now seemed uncomfortable. “So, who are all of you?” Rurik asked simply, popping part of a roll lazily into him mouth. No one replied but looked at Malfoy before becoming interested in their pates.
“All of you? Really? All of you are his little… pets? What a shame. I was hoping more of you would have some dignity.” Rurik gave a shrug and then a fake smile to those who had dared to look up and show their offence. He really had hoped that Xavior wouldn’t be the only non-mind washed groupie. This gave him a pathetic bunch to work with.
He let his gaze venture out to the other tables. He winked at his sister who was scowling at him. She always did hate missing out of the fun.
“Charity, darling, I’m afraid I don’t understand this set up. What’s with all the different groups? And why do they all seem to be a mixture of the worst types of people?” He turned to face her, showing his look of disgust after watching a kid with his Toad stuff food into his fat face.

Charity glanced as Rurik sharply. She let out a startled moan as Draco's fingers trapped a fistful of the material. She bit her lip as Malfoy's fork clattered loudly on his plate, something that was never done amongst the Pures. She placed a hand on Rurik's arm, digging her fingernails in. "What. Do. You. Think. You're. Doing?" Charity ground out between her teeth, keeping volume low. "Which one of us are you trying to get killed? Because at this pace. I'll be the one getting the tongue lashing for not putting you in your place!"
Draco glanced sharply at the two of them. "Don't refer to anyone in my house as pets, kid. These are people." It might not have helped Draco's case that he was drawing the ends if Charity's hair through his fingers like she was a prized possession of his. "Everyone in this hall is unique and valuable to the school in their own way. Except, probably, you."
Charity groaned as she sat between the two. She hoped they didn't start throwing punches. Bla k eyes did not compliment her skin tone.

“I did warn you of that,” Rurik whispered low, looking to his arm and then back at her pointedly. “And you can put me in my place later, it is only my first day after all,” He winked before audibly tisking.
“Where to start, Malfoy? First off, I don’t believe you’re old enough to be calling me kid. And if they are people, why do they look to you like scared little puppies afraid of a lashing if they disappoint their master?” Rurik raised is eyebrow before laughing. “Sorry, couldn’t take you seriously. Did you just use the unique card?” Rurik made a long look, showing his teeth in disgust for the statement. “As for me, you don’t know anything about me. And already I have more ‘uniqueness’ than your sorry arse by simply not being English.” Rurik spat the work English out as if it were the worst thing you could call someone.
“So Malfoy, what other fake crap would you like to toss my way?”
Rurik knew he was probably going too far. One look at Fae told him he had crossed the line. She looked horrified. She had always been there to keep him from stepping over the line, now she was sitting at another table, a horrified expression on her face and her body tensed. He gave her an apologetic smile. He would hold his own and back up his words. If it came to a fight he knew he could take Malfoy. The issue was how many of Malfoy’s goons could he take before they over powered him?

Draco was almost to his feet when Charity pulled him back down. She past a dirt look between Rurik and Draco. She shook her head in disgust. Yes, being in this situation for power would great anywhere else but they were in the Great Hall at a Welcome Feast with all the new first years watching. Not too mention the teachers. This could not go on right here right now.
"Listen, you two, Im younger than both of you and I say you're both acting like children. There is no need for this on the first day back. He over yourselves and let us enjoy this feast."
Malfoy stood us quickly, pulling away from the table. Crabbe and Goyle followed quickly. "We're going up to the dormitory. Come on, Charity." Charity was getting up when she stopped and shook her head, thinking better of it.
" I think Il finish my dinner. I'll meet up with you three later." Draco stared for a moment before turning on his heel and exciting the hall with a great bang.

Rurik couldn't keep the smirk off his face as Charity refused Malfoy. At least she wouldn't let the prat tell her what to do. And he couldn't help but feel a bit triumphant at Malfoy's loss of composure. Rurik did, however, feel guilty and sheepish for being called a child and indeed acting like one. He mulled over the idea of an apology as he ate some dinner. Part of him knew he should apologize for his action but his pride did not care for the weakness it would put over him. One look at Fae and he knew he had to apologize, if only to keep his sister from ripping his head off for being such an idiot.
"Well Charity, I've made quite the ass out of myself. I hope it really didn't put you into too awkward of a position." Rurik gave her his best apologetic smile. "I tend to be very competitive, but I won't apologize for that." Rurik was going to have to work on his technique, be more sly and under handed in making his place, especially concerning this Malfoy character.
Fae was fumming! She had watched her bother interact with who had been pointed out as Malfoy, the head of slytherin along side Anderson, and based on Malfoy's reaction Rurik had gone too far. Her brother always did. She had let out an audible breath of relief when Malfoy walked away. She would kill her brother for making such a scene in the first hour!
The people at her table were all whispering about the scene. From what she was hearing, Rurik was going to have to watch his back.

Xavier watched as the new kid interacted with everyone. He hadn't realised just how much everyone seemed to look up to Malfoy and Anderson. When the new-kid began to talk back to Draco, Xavier could only think that he was either brave or stupid...It was likely the latter.
Xavier watched with a large smirk on his face as Draco left with his goons following. The table seemed silent after Malfoy's little outburst. A long clap was heard from Xavier. "Bravo. I'm glad someone has finally spoken to him like that, I would of done it but..." Xavier trailed off.
He looked at Charity for a second and smiled. The truth was Xavier didn't like Draco but he let him have his moments of 'glory'. Xavier then looked up as some blonde hair caught his eye, usually he wouldn't bother looking but he did. It was strange.
