Lauren poked her head into the Great Hall and smiled at all the students. Her hands were full of books that she had just picked up from the library and they were starting to get heavy. She walked in and slowly made her way to one of the tables and threw the books down in front of her. She pulled her knees up to her chest as she sat down on the bench and picked up an apple and bit into it.
Her eyes scanned the room, looking for friendly faces, but it seemed as if not everyone was in the Great Hall yet. They were probably all still hungover from the ball. From what she gathered, it had been a crazy night. Full of drama, none the less. She was glad that she had arrived too late to go.
She picked up her copy of Romeo and Juliet and began reading the lines, letting her mind wander for a few moments. In that time, she decided that if she ever made it big as an actor, she would call herself Lori. Or Lorelai. Because either one of those would look so much better up in lights then just....Lauren. She groaned.

Marcus picked his way through Hogwarts carefully, ignoring the stares he usually got. People knew something was off about hom but it seemed people were too scared to approach him and ask. He'd tell them though. Tell him how he had killed his best friend and just smiled the entire timr. It still terrified him how crazy he had gotten at the sight of blood.
Marcus pulled at the strings of his dark hoodie, a nervous habit. He bit at his lip as he closed his eyes. Hope you're having fun in paradise, buddy. As he sat down he kept his eyes down. He hadn't spoken in years. He just didn't have anything to say to anyone that wasn't cruel or negative. He had gotten real tired of R and R real quickly and had just taken to being silent, a pleasant state that most teens are never in anymore.

In-between one of the lines, Lauren looked up and saw that a guy had sat down somewhat near her. He looked like the strong silent type to her and he was playing nervously with his hoodie. Interest peaked. She stared at him for a little while before tucking her finger into her book to hold her place and getting up and moving so that she was sitting across from him, "Hey there..." She said and extended her hand across the table, possibly going in for a handshake, but she somehow doubted that he was going to give it to her.
She had a weird prickling feeling on the back of her neck, alerting her that something was not quite right with this one, but she tried to shake if off.

On instinct Marcus looked up anf stared at the girl in front of him. She was slim, blonde, a typical girl. She looked to be about a sixth or seventh year. He hesitated but shook her hand, still not speaking. Marcus slowly pulled it back and looked down at his food.
Was she insane? She probably was ti be talking like that to him. Or just talking in general. He had liked solitude but it scared Marcus about how he might like talking to someone more.

Lauren stared for a moment more. He is obviously not the talking type, She thought to herself. More often then not, once she got started talking, she couldn't stop. So she figured it best to just sit in silence for another moment while she collected her thoughts, "I'm not really used to dealing with mutes, but I suppose that I can make an exception for you...After all, you seem...pleasant enough." She smiled and then took a bite of her food. She put down her fork and opened up R&J to continue reading.
"I'm Lauren by the way. Lauren Bennet." She said as she absentmindedly flipped through the pages.

Marcus was tempted to tell her he wasn't a mute, he just didn't have anything to say to the world. He was tempted to say that his name was Marcus Marquee but he had gotten so used to silence it was like he had super glued his mouth shut.
Marcus peered at her curiously. Saying his name was something to say to the world, was it not? Just one word. He opened his mouth slowly and worked on forming letter.
"Marcus." His voice was a whisper and rough and he closed it again, glad he had not try to form an actual sentence.

Lauren's head snapped up and she felt a smile creeping onto her lips. He was not in fact a mute. But his voice was raspy as if he hadn't spoke to anyone in a while. Lauren was yet again intrigued...and...still felt like she should be running in the opposite direction, however, she had never been one to follow her gut. He is just very...reserved, she reasoned, "Alas. He speaks! O, speak again, bright angel!" She said, aptly quoting Romeo and Juliet. She winked playfully and then went back to flipping through the play, "I'm sorry...Sometimes I just say things." She shook her head. He probably thought that she was insane. And rightly so. She had always had issues controlling herself.

Marcus' eye twitched as he fiddled his fingers. He shivered before he took another breath. "As glorious to this night, being o'er my head." He said, closing his mouth quickly again and reaching for his pumpkin juice. He was speaking way too much and iy put him on edge, scared of who was listening. "You're okay. I'm a little insane myself."

Lauren immediately closed the book, clasp her hands together and then stared at Marcus with a grin on her face, "The strong silent type who has a knack for Shakespearian literature?" She questioned, "Truth be told? I don't think I would have pegged you as that type." She said with a shrug and then accidentally kicked the leg of the table and cursed under her breath. She had never been smooth when it came to anything. She rubbed her shin where she had hit and leaned in so that she could talk a little quieter, "Any other tricks up your sleeve, Marcus?" She grinned.

Marcus shook his head quickly, leaning away from her. Personal space. He had always needed it when it came too people. He trusted them and all but he didn't trust himself. And he felt ut burning. Liquid fire starting in his stomach and working its way out his mouth.
"GET AWAY FROM ME!" Marcus closed his eyes and clenched his hands on the bench, feeling it dent around his hands.

Lauren's spine became pin straight and her eyes grew wide, "I'm...I'm...." She wasn't sure what to say in this situation. She felt so uncomfortable that she thought she was going to pass out. Her eyes drifted from his face to the bench to the table and then back again. She grabbed her books and shoved them into her bag as quickly as she could and then stood up. She grabbed her plate of food and her pumpkin juice, "God. I'm sorry." She said in a panic and moved herself to one of the other tables, as far away from Marcus as she could possibly get.
