Charles Garet ran his hand through his hair, "So like I said...This is just a corridor...And these are some paintings-" He couldn't believe that Professor McGonegall had called him back from Hogsmead in order to show Karliah Blackwood around. For the third time. McGonegall was tired to Karliah showing up late to Transfiguration because she got distracted along the way...She thought that maybe if Charles gave her another tour, it would fix the problem. He pressed his hands to his temples and then looked at her, "Do you really need me to show you around again, Blackwood?" He asked, exasperatedly.
Karliah blinked out of the trancelike state that she had been in and touched the brick wall gently, "Oh." Her voice was quiet and then she smiled brightly at Charles, "No...Of course not!"

Hermione giggled at Caleb's impersonation of Professor Snape as they walked down the hall. "Honestly, I can't even tell the difference," she smiled.
Caleb followed her as they made their way around the many turns. He hated going this way, but he got to spend some time with a friend that he hadn't talked, or even seen in months. It was the first time he'd seen Hermione laugh and he was glad he was the one to do it.
His brows furrowed at two students directly ahead, he'd didn't recognize them until they got closer, and his face turned into that of curiousity. Was that...
"Garet?" he asked the tall blonde boy ahead of them.
Hermione looked at Caleb, it had been a very long time since she'd heard that name. And not even seeing anyone else in the hallway, she was confused. "What?" She stopped suddenly at Caleb's sudden motionlessness, then turned to where he was looking. Her breath caught in her throat.

Charles reacted to his name without thinking. He recognized Caleb Hunt's voice, they had been in classes together since the beginning of his time at Hogwarts, "At your service, Mr. Hunt. What is it that I can do for you...?" He said with a grin and bowed his head like a gentleman. Then he looked up. He was almost physically thrown off balance upon seeing Hermione, "Mione." Her name escaped his lips before he could stop it and he silently cursed himself. The last time they had seen each other, he had run out of their relationship without so much as a word. He was...afraid of commitment.
Karliah watched with her eyes wide, staring at each one of them for a prolonged amount of time. She had seen all of them around school, but never talked to them.
Charles managed to close his mouth before he said something else idiotic, "This is Karliah." He muttered and pulled her into the group.

Hermione flushed profusely, her heart beating at a rapid pace and only going faster and faster by the second the longer they stood there. She looked down, biting the inside of her cheek and pulling at her fingernails.
Caleb smiled at Karliah, "Hi, yes I know who you are. Sorry we haven't been properly introduced before." He held out his hand and smiled. He was a prefect and had to know everyone, though meeting them and speaking to them was a whole another story. Usually if he had to speak to someone, they were getting introuble.
He looked at Garet and Hermione and back at Garet, "Am I missing something here?"

Charles stood silently for another moment, his thoughts racing. He could feel his palms getting a little sweaty. Oh my god...I feel like such an arse, He thought to himself as he stared at Hermione Granger, the only woman he had ever had an actual relationship with. He forgot to control his mouth and out slipped, "Oh my god...I feel like such an arse." Charles looked horrified and then tried to cover it up, "I forgot to....feed my gerbil." He said and shook his head. He wanted to just fall down and grovel at her feet, but he refused.
Karliah smiled and grabbed Caleb's hand enthusiastically, "Karliah Blackwood." She said her name with pride, "You're Caleb. Prefect." She looked down at his hand and then smiled, "You have a long life-line, you know." She said in a causal off-hand manner, "And a long line of fate." She pointed to a crease at the bottom of his palm.

Hermione held in a smile from Charles's statement. She wanted to speak to him, but her heart had blocked her throat and she couldn't form any words. She felt so stupid just standing there, running away would probably be better than just being a dumb mute. The rest of the conversation was lost to her anyways, she was too focused on Charles to even hear anything else.
Caleb smiled and looked at Karliah strangely. He wanted to pull his hand away, but was a little curious. "What are you doing?" he asked looking up at her and back down at his hand. Perhaps she was something like Professor Trelawney. Glancing over at Hermione, he wanted to ask what was wrong, but it was probably not the time and place.

"Hmmm?" Karliah looked up, her eyes wide, "I am palm-reading." She said and then looked back down at his hand curiously. She took a moment to look at Charles, "You don't have a gerbil, Charles." She said with a small smile, "I would've seen it." She shrugged her shoulders, "Ah!" She pointed at his ring finger, "Ring of Solomon." She said and smiled. [[No....I have no idea what any of this means.... O.o]]
Charles stared at Hermione for a few more seconds and then looked at Karliah, upon which he rolled his eyes, "It's a...small gerbil." He said and tried to say something else to Hermione. He wanted to tell her how sorry he was, but the words wouldn't form in his mouth, "Your Hogwarts robe looks very...tailored." He said and groaned. He was failing...Epically.

"Oh..." Caleb said with a slight grin. So, she was like Trelawney. He wondered how loose her screws were compared to the professor. He took his hand back and shoved them in his robes before Karliah could look further into his life. Cuckoo or not, he didn't want anyone seeing anything they shouldn't. Especially not now when he was so close... His mind clouded before turning to Hermione again and elbowed her slightly to see what was going on in that brain of hers.
She smiled at Caleb and shook her head, meaning she'd talk to him later. Giving Charles a nod with a hint of confusion in her eyes. "Thank you," she said wondering exactly what that meant. "It's um... nice seeing you again, Charles," the sound of his name escaping her lips sounded to foreign and at the same time so inviting.
"Oi! Yeah! Where the hell have you been?!" Caleb suddenly asked a bit louder than he had expected.

Karliah jumped when he took his hand back and looked apologetic. She knew better than to randomly start reading someone. But she had felt something weird about Caleb, and she couldn't quite place what it was. She took this opportunity to look up at the ceiling and then went to stand by Charles, her tour guide around school.
"It'snicetoseeyoutooHermione!" Charles said loudly and a little too fast. He opened his mouth and then closed it, trying to collect himself, "I had to go home. My dad was...ill and, let's just say that things didnt exactly go his way." He tried to shrug it off like it was no big deal.

"Oh..." Hermione and Caleb both said together. They looked at each other and then at Charles.
"I'm sorry to hear that, mate," Caleb said apologetically as Hermione nodded. Caleb waited for Karliah to say something like 'things happen for a reason' or something to that effect. He cleared his throat, thinking how he was being a little negative about her. But he didn't like the fact that someone, fake or not, could even try to look into his life.
Hermione wanted to talk to him in private, to tell him how sorry she was, to... just talk to him. But that would be rude, and at the moment, Caleb was nice enough to catch her up on the homework she'd missed for the past few months.
Caleb felt Hermione's anxiety and took a hint. He may not know the whole story with her and Garet, but there certainly was a story.
"So, Karliah," he said walking to her and inching his way away from Charles and Hermione. "Do you know there's a hidden room in these hallways?"

Charles watched Caleb walk away and then leaned against one of the walls with his arms crossed, "Mione..." He wasn't sure exactly how he wanted to start this conversation. It was a bit of a touchy subject, "You know I'm sorry about what happened....The last night that we....Spent together." He remembered getting freaked out by the fact that they were taking their relationship to the next level, "I freaked out for no reason and then before I knew it I was being pulled away to spend....time with my dad." He took a deep breath and furrowed his brow, "I don't even know if this makes any sense...or excuses what I've done but-" He took a deep breath, "I don't actually have a gerbil!"
Karliah looked at Caleb and smiled, "Yes. I did. Room of Requirements. Contrary to the fact that I cannot seem to keep focused on anything, I am not an idiot." She shrugged her shoulders. She touched the wall to her left and walked a few paces down the corridor, sensing that Charles and Hermione needed more alone time, "What's the story? Whatever you want or need just...appears?"

Hermione bit her lip to keep from laughing, though her smile grew wider. "I know you don't," she said nodding. "It's alright, though. I don't blame you. Things happen a little fast and I would have done the same thing if one of my parents needed me." She wished that she could take back that night though. Maybe if they didn't get so carried away she might not have said what she said. Though, she didn't mean it the way he took it. It was too late now, though.
"I'm sorry about your father," she said so softly it sounded more like a whisper. "I can't even imagine what that's like to lose someone so...." her throat jumped at the sudden realization that perhaps she did know what it was like as she had recently experienced it with Ron. She swallowed quickly to try to keep her voice from wavering.
"Exactly," Caleb said straight down. "A little odd though, for a while I thought the room was at one stationary place, but I think it moves..." He looked over at Karliah noticing how familiar she looked, but he couldn't place where she's seen her before. Probably just around the school. He shrugged it off before nodding back at Garet. "So what's with you and Garet?" he certainly wasn't for gossip, but as the nosy prefect he was, he had to know everything going on in the halls of the school.

Charles felt his heart give a little tug as he heard the change in her voice. He could almost guess what it was about, "Listen...I heard about....Ron." He said tentatively, testing the waters. He cocked his head to the side slightly and then continued, "I'm here for you Hermione....I mean, I know I haven't been around lately...at all, but If you ever want to talk about it. I know what you're going through. I do....And maybe sometime, we could grab a coffee or something. Maybe discuss the death of our loved ones...? Or maybe, a little less macabre, we could talk about puppies and rainbows...?" He raised his gaze slightly to meet hers and then reached out for her hand, "You don't have to be alone, Mione."
Karliah kept walking, expecting Caleb to follow her, "Charles? Oh." She smiled, "He was giving me my Hogwarts Tour. For the third time. I can never seem to get to Transfiguration on time and McGonegall has been having little hissy fits every time...So she basically told Charles to show me around AGAIN or she fails him." She shrugged her shoulders and then looked at him for another moment. Caleb was handsome. She shook her head, shaking away the thought with it.

Hermione gave him a smile as her heart melted, suddenly being reminded of why she had started falling for him in the first place. "Puppies and rainbows sound good," she said. They were friends once, she was sure they could be friends again if nothing else. He was a good person and she knew it. And good people were hard to come by. Wiping her eyes that were brimming with tears, she stuffed her hands in her robes and looked at the dissappearing figures of Caleb and Karliah. It was incredible how time had moved on so quickly, it seemed only yesterday she was staring up and down the halls in awe on their first day of school.
"I guess Caleb forgot about me," she shrugged, now thoroughly relieved that he had left for she suddenly didn't feel like doing any homework.
Caleb laughed, "You've been here for six years, right? And you're still getting lost?" He ruffled his hair slightly and puffed out his chest, "Lucky for you- and Garet, I know the ins and outs of this entire castle. I'd be glad to show you around..... if you're alright with that?"

"Who knows... Karliah can be very...persuasive when it comes to doing anything..." Charles said, looking after Caleb and Karliah. He was almost glad that Caleb had taken her. She could be a handful sometimes. And she was always trying to read his palm or forehead. He shook his head as he thought about it. He looked up and and saw that she was crying. He forced a small smile and wiped some of the tears from her cheek with his thumb, "Who knows....Maybe we should get a gerbil. They're said to be very....therapeutic." He said with a wink.
Karliah hesitated for a moment and stopped walking. Caleb had this way of looking put together while still maintaining some sort of disarray. Maybe it was his long hair. She cleared her thoughts and she cast a small glance at Hermione and Charles, just as Hermione had looked over. They made eye contact and she smiled, "I'd love for you to show me around, Hunt. Starting-" She said and grabbed his hand, pulling him into another corridor, "-Here." She winked.
