Hermione dashed forward, reaching out for his hand, "No!" She blushed once more for the thousandth time that day, "I mean... Caleb and I... We aren't... He was just going to show me the homework I missed." Hermione didn't know why she needed to explain anything to anyone, but Charles had found her heartstrings and was pulling on them.
Caleb laughed, shaking his head. "We aren't together, mate. She's all yours." With that, he walked down the hall and turned to a corner, dissappearing. He was glad to be rid of Hermione. He had some pressing matters to attend to now. Like why did he just have a vision of Hermione killing him?

"All mine...." Charles smiled brightly at the change of mood that he was suddenly experiencing. He raised his hand in a wave towards Cameron, surprisingly very happy that the Hufflepuff boy was well on his way out of this conversation. When he was finally gone, Charles relaxed.
"Homework eh?" He nudged her, "I swear on Harry Potter's life that that is all that you do Hermione Granger. I'm going to get you to branch out if it's the last thing that I do." He groaned and walked closer to her again, suddenly feeling empty without her near, "What help could you possibly need? Aren't you the girl that knows everything?" He winked.

Hermione liked the sound of her name being spoken by him. It sent a deep resonating vibe to her heart and she could feel her insides burning from the warmth. Hermione giggled, "Everything? No. I've been MIA for a few weeks, so I haven't gotten my school affairs in order. But there's nothing wrong with a little bit of homework. What else is there to do in a school?" She felt her breath catch as he came closer to her and she couldn't move an inch.

"Mmmmm-" Charles pressed his hand to his temple like he was thinking, "I can think of a list of at least seven things that we could do right now instead of 'a little bit of homework'. Are you prepared?" He winked and then started circling her, counting on his fingers, "Number one: We could take a walk outside. Number two: We could play, or watch a Quidditch match or scrimmage. Gryffindor and Hufflepuff are going right now." He smiled and continued, "Three: We could attempt to outsmart Peeves who is currently hiding in that closet behind you. Four: We could have Karliah read our fortunes. Five, Six, and Seven are as follows." He leaned down and kissed her cheek. Then her other cheek. And finally gently kissing her lips.

Hermione felt her body shake as he kissed her. Her lips pushed back tenderly against his as all of her worries melted away. Her hands slowly found his, pulling him closer. As their lips parted she smiled up at him, "I think I like number four the best."

Charles faked shock, "C'mon! I mean, I know I'm a little out of practice, but...really?! Five through seven were my favorites by far." He winked and then touched her hand lightly, "To Karliah it is, then." He thought about what their fortunes would say, or if Karliah would even agree to it. He had been being kind of a jerk to her lately, but then again, she never seemed to notice, "Wherever she may be!" Charles laughed and then recalled that Karliah liked to spend all of her time either in the north tower practicing divination or in her room, doing the same. His bet was the North Tower. He pulled Hermione that way, smiling.

Hermione's feet went fast following his lead. Charles was such a person to make her so silly and carefree she couldn't believe how she was around him. What a complete difference it was to be completely consumed by grief over Ron and then to be so completely free and light with Charles. Deep in her heart she felt as if she shouldn't be having fun, that she should be grieving, and she felt guilty for it.
As they reached the North Tower, she stopped and pulled at his hand, making him stop abruptly. She looked down at her hands, maybe having someone read her palm was a bad idea, no matter how ridiculous she thought they may be.
"I like five through seven better," she said smiling. "Let's do seven again," she pushed him against the wall and kissed his lips as if he was air to her lungs.

Charles smiled against her kiss and then broke away from her for a moment, "Hermione...." He couldn't help but laugh. He pressed his lips to hers again and gently ran his hands through her hair, taking in the feeling of being with her again, "Are you sure that you don't want to just go in and have Karliah-"
Karliah stuck her head out of the door. Her hair was piled on top of her hair and she had a brightly colored headscarf tied around her head, "I thought I heard you two." She said, completely ignoring the fact that they seemed to be having something of a moment, "Would you like to come up?" She opened the door a little wider and smiled brightly.
"I dunno, K. It's up to Hermione." Charles said with a small smile, "C'mon...Cant be that bad." He winked.

Hermione nearly stumbled when she saw Karliah, almost the spitting image of Trelawney minus the crazy glasses and bewildered look on her face. She cleared her throat and tried not to question the headscarf. Looking at Charles, she sighed. It could be bad. It could be another "You're in grave danger, you're going to die" Trelawney moment.... Or worse.
"Alright," she said then looked at Karliah, "Yeah just for a minute."
Hermione walked in front of Charles as they entered through the door.

The passageway up to the North Tower was a little smokey, and Charles couldn't stop coughing, "Good lord, Karliah...You're going to set the whole da.mn castle on fire..." He said as the sickly sweet smell of incense filled his nostrils again. He practically gagged and grabbed on to Hermione's hand for support.
Karliah smiled and continued walking up the spiral staircase, "Sybill lets me use the room when she's not teaching. It's relaxing." She said, waving her hand through the thick layer of smoke. Finally they reached the top of the staircase and Karliah had set up a small round table and three chairs, "I had a feeling you were coming." She said and sat down.
Charles rolled his eyes, "Sometimes I wish you'd just....cut out all the bull-crap, Karliah." He muttered under his breath and nudged Hermione slightly. He crossed to the chairs and pulled one out, motioning for Granger to take a seat. He smiled brightly. This could either go very badly for him or he would end up back in the good graces with Hermione Granger.

Hermione covered her nose and mouth with the sleeve of her robe, but the smoke stung her eyes. Relaxing? Yeah right. More like dying from smoke inhilation. She sat down on the offered seat and looked over at Karliah. "Karliah, will you... uh.... read our fortunes?" she asked feeling very silly like she was going to one of those muggles who own shops and take people's money for telling them obvious things.
Hermione gave her a trusting smile, hoping that she wouldn't offend her. Trelawney was so full of crap, that's why she dropped her class as fast as she could. But maybe Karliah was different, but judging from her attire and the smokey state of the room, she doubted it.

Karliah smiled, "Sure!" She said and held out her hands to Charles first who put his right hand in hers and then stared at her quizzically. He had to admit that he had never actually done this before, "Palm reading or crystal ball..." Karliah looked up and asked, Then she answered her own question, "Both." She looked at his hand for a moment and then furrowed her brow. There was nothing particularly interesting in Charles' palm. Pain and hurt that was short lived. She pointed to a small circle towards the back of his palm, "Rather long line of marriage." She said aloud and then smiled as she looked up at him, "You've already found the right girl, haven't you?" She left the subject and continued to survey his hand.
Then Karliah's hands found Hermione's palm. She stared at it for a long moment. Mystery. Hermione's hands had been a little overworked and it was hard to get a good read, "Look? See how this line crosses this one in the center of your palm?" She pointed and then held Hermione's hand to the small lamp, "Fate and your career are going to tear you in two. You're trying too hard to be overly devoted to your schooling when fate is basically slapping you in the face trying to tell you it's there." Karliah stopped for a moment and then took a breath. The small travel line on the back of her hand might have something to do with-
"Karliah?" Karliah's eyes had glazed over for a moment and she flashed back to the Hermione/Caleb scene. She couldn't catch her breath as she saw Caleb fall to the ground on the other end of Hermione's unforgivable curse.

Hermione watched Karliah read Charles's fortune. She smiled at everything she said, how obviously vague could you get? It was apparent that she was only telling him things he wanted to hear. First rule of getting people to believe you- tell them what they want to hear. She sighed, but smiled when it was her turn. Hermione tried to fight the urge to roll her eyes when she started to read her palms. Well obviously she was having trouble with school and everything else. Her life wasn't exactly normal. Hermione was about to pull her hand away from the sheer stupidity of it all, Karliah was obviously a fake just like Trelawney. She stopped upon seeing the glazed over look on Karliah's face- looked at Charles and then back at Karliah.
"Karliah?... Are you alright?" she asked cautiously.

"Oh my god." Charles looked at Karliah in her catatonic state and then looked at Hermione, "Oh my god...what are we supposed to do?!" He was starting to get panicky as he waved his hand in front of her face again. He felt her forehead, "She's burning up do you think that we should maybe get Professor-"
Karliah blinked a few times and then drew her hands away from Hermione's hastily. At first she hadnt believed what she saw when she had touched Cameron, but now, seeing it the second time, she knew that there was something going on, "You..." She couldn't make words come out right, all that came out was a guttural whisper, something similar to nails on a chalkboard, "You....." Her voice raised itself without Karliah's control.
Then she blinked a few more times and her eyes returned to their normal blue-grey color, "Im sorry..." She said and shook her head at the pair, "I-Dont know what happened."

Hermione looked back and forth from Charles to Karliah and back to Charles. What had just happened? Her mouth moved up and down a few times without so much as a stammer, she didn't know what to say. "Did... did you have some kind of vision?" she asked not believing that she could actually believe something like that had just happened. But it seemed to unlike Karliah, from the full day she'd known her, to act so. "What did you see?" Hermione asked quickly worried that she didn't remember anything.
