Hermione nearly fumed. "I am NOT spoiling them!" she exclaimed. "You're the one wanting to feed them peanut butter and jelly for the rest of their lives! Might as well put sugar instead of water in their cups! They'll be fat and dead in a week!" She couldn't believe how Charles was acting, saying that she was spoiling them. How dare he? Who did he think he was? Hermione stood in front of Charles with arms cross, almost towering over him despite his height.

"Woah...Woah, 'Mione...." Charles said, taking a few steps backwards. He shook his head, "I'm sorry...I didnt mean anything by it. You're right of course..." He said and took a few deep breaths, trying not to be intimidated by her (although it was pretty hard because she looked terrifying at the moment), "I'm sorry, okay? I'm the one spoiling them. You're just....doing what's right." He looked wide-eyed around the room, searching for someway out, but he couldn't find any, "Bloody hell....this is the reason that I'm never having children! I won't know what to do with them!" He groaned and continued to scoot away from her until he hit the side of a bedside table.

Hermione flushed suddenly realize she'd started yelling for no reason. Wow, dealing with children was doing something weird to her. She hesited. It's not a child. It's a three-headed gerbil. Then she looked down at the creature and melted. Oh, who am I kidding, she thought when she saw them cowering on the edge of a pillow, probably from fright of her little tantrum.
"Ohhhh I'm sorry sweethearts. Did mummy scare you?" she cooed and picked them up as she laid in bed with them. "I'm sorry honey."

Charles stood there with his mouth hanging open in horror. Hermione had turned into some blood-sucking mother-figure over the course of the last few minutes. He slowly closed his mouth and took a big breath, "Listen...I'm just going to....go." He said and took a few more steps around the bedside table towards the door, "I think it's better if I just give you some time alone with the gerbil. You two can...bond or whatever you'd like."

Hermione's head turned towards him quickly, her eyes wide. She bit her lip as she turned around to face the little creature resting on her chest. Her eyes brimmed with tears but she blinked them back. She knew that she was pushing Charles away again, but she didn't know what else to do to stop him. Hermione was tired of trying to control everything, maybe it was best if she let things happen in their own accord.
Petting each head with her index finger she nodded her head, "okay."

"If you need anything-" Charles caught himself at the door and pressed his hand against the door frame, trying to force himself out, but he couldn't quite manage. He thought himself pathetic, "You know where I am Hermione. I'm always around to talk..." He said over his shoulder and forced himself to smile brightly, "Or just hang out. I'd be fine with hanging out." He realized then that he had no idea what he was saying and slowly closed his mouth, worried he was going to say something else to ruin any chance that he had ever had with Hermione Granger.

Hermione smiled, feeling a lot more relieved. She didn't want to lose Charles, not now when she had just gotten him back. She got out of bed carrying the little creature and putting them in their cage. Walking over to him, she gave Charles a kiss on the cheek, her feet rising up to stand on her tip toes.
"You will come back and take our little critter tomorrow, won't you?" she asked her face flushing pink.

Charles felt his face growing hot as he realized that her small peck had made him blush, "Of course. I'll make sure I wake up on time to get him tomorrow." He said with a grin and took another step. He stopped and then rushed forward to hug Hermione, "I missed you." He said quickly, trying not to draw much attention to the statement. He quickly let go of her, and without another look back, he walked out of Hermione's room.

Hermione couldn't help but beam as she watched him leave. It had been one crazy day. She closed the door behind her and looked down at her "child's" cage. He was already fast asleep, looks like it was a big day for him, too. She opened a drawer and took out a book, flopping down on her bed as she flipped it to the book marked page.
