Witch. Right. Lily cursed herself for being so stupid. She put her wand to her head and her clothing and hair transfigured before her eyes. It was her tea-length purple party dress. Modest, but classy. Perfect for the Slug Club dinner. Her hair had been pulled back into a loose up-do, some curls falling to loosely frame her face. She even had a bit of make-up on, contrary to her belief that all make up was unnecessary. She smiled, "I love magic." She said and twirled around, admiring the work that she had done in just a few moments and with just a little bit of concentration.
"Hugs." She repeated when she finished twirling in circles three times. She raised and eyebrow and crossed to him. Her heels had given her a bit of a lift and she didn't feel so short standing next to him anymore. She awkwardly put her hands around him, but she immediately felt herself relax as she laid her head on his chest. It was comfortable there. More comfortable than she had thought it would be. She suddenly realized why everyone liked hugs so much and snuggled a little closer.

James held his breath before it suddenly let his body. It felt wonderful, better than any other hug he had ever gotten. He wrapped his arms around her in turn, pulling her in closer to him, sighing with what little breath he had left. She smelt wonderful. Like lilies ironically. He smiled to himself, trying to remind himself that this was a friendly hug, not anything else.
"You look beautiful, Lily, and I'm so happy to be escorting you to the Slug Club dinner as friends." If they were to be nothing more James was going to work his ass off to be the best damn friends she had ever had, even better than Sn-Severus. "No, scratch that, you look gorgeous."
The first thing he was going to do after this dinner was tell everyone in his house that Lily was up for grabs again. Who was he to deny her happiness? He was selfish and arrogant and everything Lily said he was. It wasn't fair to make it seem as if loads of guys didn't want Lily because every boy wanted her. It was up to her to find a man worth her love.

Lily realized well into the hug that they had not broken away and she was suddenly very self conscious. She pulled away from him and took four steps backward so that she was close to the door again. She knew that her face was bright red from both embarrassment and anxiousness. Slug Club always made her anxious. So many people to impress. She looked from left to right, reaching up and touched her hair, then her chin, then she flattened the top of her dress.
"We should go...you now, it started 15 minutes ago. We're probably going to have to sit next to Davey Gudgeon..." She shivered involuntarily when she though about it. He was probably one of the most disgusting Hufflepuffs in the entire world. So slimy...She remembered back to one of the first meetings when he had attempted to look down her shirt when she was not paying attention. She had been so furious that she had almost poured her drink all over him. Luckily someone had sat down next to her to put her out of her misery. Remus. She smiled. She had met Remus at a Slug Club Dinner. Her first, actually.

James sighed and nodded. "Don't worry. You are my best friend after all. I'll hex anybody you want me to without hesitation... even if it is Professor Slughorn. Anything for the fairy tale princess." James winked and held out his arm;. "The ball awaits love, shall I have you home before midnight?" James couldn't help it. Slowly he was letting his guard down around Lily, letting his rather goofy side show through. He couldn't help it. Lily was so real. It was infectious.
