Lily tugged her bag onto her shoulder and almost toppled over with the sheer amount of books that had made it into the canvas sack. It felt like she was attempting to carry 12 pewter cauldrons inside the tiny school bag. She ran her hand through her red hair and pulled it further up her shoulder, making sure that she didn’t spill any of the books. She turned around and slowly made her way up the hill back toward Hogwarts Castle. She almost ran into someone who was running down the hill, yelling loudly about a Quidditch scrimmage that was going to go on soon.
Lily smiled slightly to herself. Quidditch had been one of the things that she loved most about the Wizarding world, so she might as go watch. She hoisted the bag up again and began walking in the general direction of the Quidditch Pitch. The buzzing of voices could be heard from far away as she approached.
“Can you believe it? Gryffindor and Slytherin at it again!” One of the Hufflepuff boys was saying to a Hufflepuff Girl. She didn’t recognize them, but they looked pretty young. Probably first years, she guessed. She tucked a piece of her hair behind her ear and brushed past the vast group of people that had gathered on the lawn in front of the pitch. She wasn’t sure who she was going to sit with. Her bet was Severus would want to sit with all his Slytherin friends. She groaned as she put her bag down and flopped into the bleachers about halfway up. What was his deal anyway? He had been acting like a real jerk lately and Lily wasn’t exactly too fond of his attitude.
“Oye! Watch out!” Someone yelled to her, but Lily was too deep in thought to even notice. She looked up a little too late to see a bludger coming her way. A scream didn’t even manage to escape her lips before the ball colldied with her head and sent her flailing backwards over the back of her bleacher seat.

Remus was out of his spot on the bleachers immediately and pushing his way over to Lily Evans. He had to push a few first years out of the way as he made it to his fellow Prefect. Remus hesitated before he leaned over her, casually looking at her with a small smile. "You okay, Miss Evans? You really should pay attention to the game if you're going to watch it." He commented as he ducked suddenly as the bludger flew over his head.
When he came back up he was smiling and holding out his hand. Lily and him had been friends for a long time. James Potter, his best friend, has eyes for her. She was so kind though. Although he cringed at the idea of how'd she react if she ever found out about his lycanthropy.
He inspected the wound at the top of her head. It didn't look to be too bad but perhaps she shouldn't go to sleep anytime soon for the hazard of a concussion. It was already to starting to bruise. Poor girl. Between James and Severus she'll never get a break.

Lily's head was spinning and she was pretty sure that all the first years were laughing at her. You okay, Miss Evans? That was the first thing that she could make out. Her eyes traveled around the small circle that had enclosed her and she finally made eye contact with Remus Lupin. She winced as the bloody bludger flew by again, coming within a few feet of his head. But just as he ducked down he was back up, grinning at her and holding out his hand.
"I was paying attention, thank you very much Remus." She said, placing her hand in his and using it to help herself to her feet. She immediately let go because he was starting to inspect her head. He was looking at the wound and frowning slightly, "Oh god. Don't tell me. It's horrible isn't it?" She said, feigning mock horror. Her fingers reached up and touched the ginger spot on her head and she drew in a breath. It didn't feel as if it had broken the skin, but that one was definitely going to be hurting later.
She peered around him, looking for the other boys that he hung around with. Namely James. She wasn't in the mood for his jokes right now and she knew she would have to make a quick exit if he got anywhere near her. Then she realized that he was the Chaser of the Gryffindor Team and she probably had nothing to worry about. Unless the quaffle also decided to attack her face. Then, perhaps she would be in trouble.

Remus felt over her head and shrugged before he dropped his hand and took a seat beside Lily, his eyes watching James play. James wouldn't get mad about this. He trusted Remus. If this were Sirius all hell would've broke lose after the game. Good thing they both played on the Quidditch team. Moony didn't enjoy the violence of the game, although he was well off on a broom. The thought of avoiding bludgers while on a broom was a risky situation.
"Oh, I'm sure you were, Lil, you just saw it coming and didn't want to move. Because so many people would willing get knocked in the head with a bludger and have their entire Gryffindor house laugh at them." Remus looked at Lily with a lop sided grin and he spread his legs and propped his elbows on them, clasping his hands together in front of him. He looked back at Lily, jumping up with the entire Gryffindor house as James scored against Slytherin. The announcement was nearly lost in the cheers.
"It isn't that bad. Just a little scratch on you're beautiful face. Probably hurts a lot worse then it looks? Do you need something? Like help to the Hospital Wing?" Remus questioned as the crowed settled down and he took a seat beside Lily, resuming his old position, and watching the game intently.

The entire team? Lily blushed a deep red and stared at the Gryffindor team. Some of them were still looking at her and snickering before they went back to their game. Apparently they all had witnessed her inability to dodge an incoming bludger. She felt her face grow even hotter and briefly wondered if James had seen her little incident. She couldn't stand the thought that she had embarrassed herself in front of all of them, "It wasn't that, I just thought that-"
She was cut off by the uproarious cheering that suddenly erupted around her. She looked around, confused and leapt to her feet. Obviously one of the players had just scored. And from the look on James' face, she assumed that it was him. Why did he have to be so arrogant? She clapped her hands together awkwardly as she strained to hear the announcement so that she could affirm her suspicion that it had been James. It was a lost cause, though, and she took her seat after everything had calmed down.
“No. I don’t need to go the hospital wing. It’ll be fine. Honestly it’s fine.” Lily said with a small smile, her eyes not leaving the Quidditch Pitch now. She had heard him call her face beautiful, she just chose not to acknowledge it...at least not yet. She didn’t want to mess anything else important. She had already made a fool out of herself twice today. She slowly turned her head so that she could see Remus out of her peripheral vision and she smiled, “Thanks for asking though.” Lupin had always been so nice to her. She wasn’t exactly the most sociable being in the entire world, but he didn’t seem to mind. She considered him to be one of her dearest friends; less confusing than Severus or James, “So, you think my face is beautiful, eh?” She played it off as nonchalant, but discreetly smiling when she said it, turning her head so that she was completely focused on the game before her.

Remus jumped to his feet, yelling at the referee. "You bigot! How can you let that slide!? He clearly did it on purpose!" The ref glared at Remus before he sat own. The ref sighed and called a penalty though. Remus smiled to himself as James gave him the thumbs up, eyes lingering on Lily. He laughed and shook his head. When was James going to stop? It was quite obvious she hated him. Whenever he was near she basically ran the other way. He sort of figured Lily and Severus had been hooking up some nights. Though he'd never say that to anyone.
Remus arched an eyebrow, not looking at Lily, though hearing what she said. He was good at multitasking. He wet his lips, his eyes following the bludger in case it decided to attack Lily again. His eyes caught hold of the snitch though, and they darted after it. He made a motion to James who turned and zipped after it.
"Well, you shouldn't sleep any time soon. You're brain could be bleeding or something. And yes, I called you beautiful. Is there something wrong with that? You have red hair and green eyes... the perfect combination. I can call you beautiful, can't I?" He questioned as hi s eyes traveled towards the Quaffle being passed between the Slytherin team.

Lily awkwardly clapped her hands together when the Referee called the penalty. She wasn’t even sure what it was for, but from the way Remus was acting, she was pretty sure that it was important. She caught James looking at her and she made a point to avoid his gaze by staring at the quaffle with unrelenting intensity. Her lips moved, mentally naming the players that she knew. Potter to Black. Black to Prewett. Prewett back to Potter. Gryffindor had the quaffle again and she watched intently as one of the Slytherin’s came in and swooped it out of their grasp.
“Oh come on!” She yelled and was embarrassed when everyone turned around to look at her. She blushed deeply and scooted backwards on her chair, feeling extremely embarrassed. Apparently that was not the correct time for her to be yelling. They all slowly turned back around and she relaxed a little bit. Why did things like that always seem to happen to her? Did she have a curse placed on her from a very early age? She groaned and gave a tug at her red hair.
“Dont worry, I wasn’t planning on sleeping. I’ve got a History of Magic paper due tomorrow. 12 inches! Can you believe that?” She shook her head, wondering why she had decided to take on so many classes. It felt like self-inflicted torture to her, “And I would take that back right now if I were you. Red and Green look great on a christmas tree, but not so much on a witch.” She said and scrunched up her nose in semi-disgust. She looked at a piece of her hair that had fallen in front of her face and sighed. Sometimes she wished that she had blonde hair or brown hair. There were barely any other red-heads at Hogwarts. It really made her stand out.

Remus let out a disgruntled growl and slammed his fist against the bench as Lucinda Talkalot scored on McGonagall. Who's brilliant idea was it to allow girls to play on the team? They did nothing! The snitch had evaded James and Remus' eyes roved around the field looking for it. Out of the corner of his eye he saw the bludger moving towards his left side. He whipped out his wand and repelled it back to the field, sending a glare at Regulus Black. This would not do. James pulled a beater out of Sirus' hand and smashed the bludger towards Regulus. It clipped him on the side and the Gryffindors cheered.
Remus took a deep breath before he managed to spare a glance at Lily. She had jumped up at the wrong time and was still settling down from it, red in the face. He smiled slightly. She had no clue what was going on. Why was she even here? "Red and green look perfect on you, Lily, don't think otherwise. You're beautiful. A girl as gorgeous as you should always stand out." He commented, his face serious, before a grin split across his face. "12 inches? That's it? You got off easy, love. I have 16 inches for Defense Against The Dark Arts on how to spot Werewolves. Should be an easy A though."He chuckled to him. How to spot a werewolf. He's sitting right here. He's wearing my clothes, and he looks like me.

Lily rolled her eyes at James' theatrics. Why did he always have to be like that? But she felt a smile creeping onto her lips when Regaulus was almost thrown off of his broom. The Gryffindors cheered and she joined them, leaping to her feet and leaning over the rail so that she could look closer. She was pretty sure that she had just seem the snitch whizzing past the Faculty bleachers. Her eyes searched around, but she seemed to have lost track of it. She was awful at trying to be helpful when it came to Quidditch Matches. Really the only reason that she came was to get away from studying for a while.
She leaned back, her hands still on the edge so that she could talk to Lupin while she watched, "Well thank you, Mr. Lupin. It's not often a girl like me is told how beautiful she is." She said with a laugh and watched one of the Slytherin players get knocked into the side of the pitch. She bit her lip when his broom started going wonky and he almost flew off. Always so dangerous. But then he righted himself and she relaxed her shoulders.
"An easy A? Merlin's beard, Remus, I don't think I could tell a Werewolf from a Vampire." She shivered, "I guess that's what makes them so dangerous." She said and watched as Talkalot had the quaffle again, "Oh come on! BLUDGEN HER! She's going to score again!!" She screamed. The rest of the Gryffindors looked at her for a moment and then erupted with a loud shout of BLUDGEN HER directed at Sirius Black.

Remus watched Sirius direct a killer blow towards him and he smiled. He always looked good when he played Quidditch. And Lily was getting into the game. This was perfect. James flew towards them increasingly fast. Remus didn't flinch, his eyes on the snitch that sat dangerously close to his face, fluttering around, thinking it had found a safe haven.
James hand clamped over the Snitch. Everyone cheered except for Remus and James. James hadn't pulled out quick enough and he hurtled into Remus who groaned and fell back, cracking his neck. James was up in a flash, back on his broom, and smiling an apology over at Remus who just shook his head and rolled his shoulder back with an audible pop.
"So, I take it you picked the place where you're most likely to get hurt, hey?" He smiled over at Lily with a shake of his head.

Lily's eyes went wide when she realized that James was flying extremely close to the two of them. And he wasn't stopping. Her palms got a little sweaty, but she felt like she couldn't move. He was barreling toward them and he narrowly avoided her, crashing into Remus. In his hand was the much sought after Golden Snitch. She felt herself react before she thought about it, "MERLIN'S BEARD" She shouted at the pair of them, "YOU DID IT! YOU DID IT!" She was like a gleeful child who had just gotten a present she had always wanted. Then she realized that Remus was still on the ground.
"What have you done?!" Her mood changed drastically as she brushed past James and sat down next to Remus. She moved her hand to his face, brushing some of his hair out of his eyes, "Honestly, James. I just picked a seat that I could see the game from..." She scoffed and stared into Remus' eyes, concern written all over her face, "You need to watch what you're doing." She muttered to Potter her eyes never leaving Remus' face. She touched his shoulder gently.
"Now who's the one who hasn't been paying attention to the game, eh, Lupin?" She said with a small smile.

Remus barely contained a growl as James' eyes flashed at the contact between them, suddenly losing all trust he had for Remus. What had hey been doing here? Just what did Remus think he was doing moving in on his girl. Well not yet but she would be soon. "Lil," James moved to put himself in between Remus and Lily, Remus quickly drawing back. "Perhaps I should watch out for you then. Next game I'll make sure to keep the balls well away from you, even if that means I leave Sirius without a stick the entire time, kay?" James gave her a cute smile as Remus inched down the bench.
Remus was aware of what he'd done. He hadn't realized it until James came but he had been making a move on Lily. Which was wrong and so very unlike him. He couldn't have James hating him. James had been his first friend. He's do anything to protect that no matter what. even if that meant forfeiting his own happiness.

Lily stared at James in-between her and Remus and she frowned slightly. What was he doing? She could only imagine that he was feeling territorial. He had always thought that he had some sort of claim over her. Which was completely preposterous. She was a free and independent woman...capable of making her own decisions. She peered around him to look at Remus and frowned even deeper. He looked hurt. Had she done something?
"Potter, I would appreciate it if you called me Lily. Lil is what my mother used to call me when she was cross. And I don't appreciate your little nick-names." She said beginning to become a little agitated with him. Who did he think he was anyway? Just because he was the star of the Gryffindor Quidditch team didn't mean that he needed to be so weird about their relationship. It was no secret that they had never gotten along that well, "I don't need you to protect me from...balls, thank you very much." She retaliated and ducked around him to pick up her bag. She was still surprised how heavy it was and almost toppled over under the weight.

James glared at Remus as Remus made a move towards the bag. James grabbed it instead with his signature smile. "Why don't you let me help you with that? I am in Quidditch after all and have plenty of muscle. Unlike Remus over here." Remus smiled despite the jibe. James was slowly starting to think that perhaps nothing had gone on between the two. He reached out to pat Remus head like a well trained puppy.
Remus stood up and nodded to them. "It was a pleasure talking to you, Lily, see you in the hall sometime." Remus smiled before he turned and pushed his way through snarls of kids.

"Oh." Lily blushed. She had seen both of the boys trying to get to the bag before she could and it made her embarrassed. James was able to get to it first and he pulled it onto his shoulders, saying something about how muscular and strong he was. Why couldn't James back off? She bit her tongue, however, happy to have someone to carry the bag, "Slug Club Dinner tonight and Prefect's duty tomorrow night, Lupin. I'll see you there." She called after him and smiled slightly. He was just a pleasant person to be around. He made her feel like she could be at ease and be herself when she was with him.
"Of course, Muscles." Lily nodded in agreement and rolled her eyes. As much as she professed hating him, he made her laugh. In a...I'm-actually-laughing-at-you-not-with-you kind of way, "Potter, don't you ever get sick of hearing yourself talk?" She asked as she pushed her way around some of the students who were practically begging for James' autograph. He was a Gryffindor Celebrity.
