"Mmmhmmm," Charles shook his head, "I think that we should be friends for a little while before we try and jump into anything. Not say that we even will jump into anything eventually...I just....I really missed you Hermione. I guess that's all that I'm really trying to say here. I don't want to make things any harder for you than I know they already are..." He knew what she was thinking. How she was feeling. It couldn't have been easy to deal with Ron's death and he was basically asking that she forget all about him. He couldn't do that to her.

"I understand," she nodded as they walked through the gates, passing the barrier from the outside world and into Hogwarts grounds. Hermione thread lightly on the dirt. Though they were still far from the castle, she didn't want to be seen by anyone. The last thing they needed was some student coming up to them for help or to talk or something that would hinder them from going into the castle.
"So who gets to keep him tonight? You or me?" she asked.

Charles stared at her curiously, "You can keep him. He obviously likes you better, anyway. He didnt try and pee on you." He said and smiled a small smile, "You keep him. I'll set up the cage and stuff for you and drop it off at the Gyrffindor common room if you'd like. I think that would be the easiest." Charles shrugged and looked down at all the stuff that he had to set up. Hermione sure had bought a lot on their shopping excursion.

Hermione bit her lip, "Wait." She had just realized something that she'd never even thought of before. "I don't know how to take care of a gerbil," she said with a sigh, "I had Crookshanks, but he was able to fend for himself." Closing the box so that no one could peer inside to see what she had, they walked up the steps to the Gryffindor tower. It sure was one heck of a day they'd had.

Charles laughed, "Well...I've never actually had one either." He said and furrowed his brow, "I mean I would assume that you just....give it water and food and it....hangs out? Maybe you can put it in this round rollie ball thing...." He peered in the box for a moment and then looked at her, "What if three-headed gerbils are different? Does this make us unfit pseduo-parents?" He could feel himself panicking a little and tried to stop. It honestly couldn't be that hard to take care of a small animal, no matter if it head one head or seven.

Hermione opened the door to her dorm setting the box on the bed and began to clear off the table beside it. Thankfully, she had the room to herself so there was no need to be worried about privacy intrusion. "Do you think that he needs to eat three times more?" she asked opening the small box that their three-headed gerbil had called home until now. "Or... he just has one stomach, three heads... So it should really matter which one you feed... Right?"

Charles started to set up the cage, putting the fodder down for the animal and then putting out a food bowl and a water dispenser. He set the cage on Hermione's table and then opened the small box where Harold was sitting quietly. All three heads turned to look at him and the one on the far left attempted to lick him, "I don't know if it matters which one you feed..." He answered honestly and then picked Harold fluffy-monkey-boney-the-gerbil up, "I mean...look....they all have different personalities...Kinda cute, really." He smiled down at the gerbil and then held him out to Hermione.

Hermione held out her hand as she gently held the tiny gerbil. "Maybe since there are three different heads with seperate personalities... we should have three names for him?" she shrugged wondering if that made any sense at all. She laid down on the bed, on her stomach, putting the ball of fluff on the bed in front of her. The tiny creature waddled on the bed, probably unfamiliar with something so soft, before laying down on it's back, rocking back and forth with all three heads swinging wildly around.
"He's so adorable!" Hermione squeeked.

Charles laughed and stood at the edge of the bed with his arms folded across his chest, "Yes...He's quite cute." He agreed and ran his hands through his hair, "Three names sound lovely." He remarked and then shrugged his shoulders, "I still say that we name at least one of them Harold after that particularly pleasant gentleman that sold us our darling gerbil." He smiled and then looked at the gerbil. It saw him looking and waddled towards him, one of the heads trying to bite his finger as he dangled it in front of it. He laughed, "It's...clever. Like you Hermione." He said cheerily.

Hermione turned over and set the tiny creature on her chest, letting him crawl all over her, testing the texture of her shirt versus her skin. "Alright, fine. The one of the left side is Harold... Now... The one in the middle is," she pondered for a moment, tapping her lip as she did so and scunching up her nose and mouth. "The one in the middle we shall call..." then she began to laugh, "Hades."

"Mmmhmmmm. You're so cute when you're thinking." Charles said and flopped down on the bed next to her so that he could get a closer look at Harold-Hades-Unnamed. He petted the top of the small animal's head with his finger and then smiled, "And the last head will be named Charles Jr. After his favorite father figure." He smiled and looked up at Hermione, "I would suggest Hermione Jr. but I feel as if that's already a little overused." He winked and then Harold chomped down on his finger, "Awwww bloody hell...." He said as he saw the small cut. He shook his head, "Harold is not fond of me....I'll tell you that right now."

Hermione stuck her tongue out at him. "I wouldn't like you either if you named me Harold," she said before petting Harold's head. "They're probably hungry," she said looking around the room on the off chance that one of the house elves would e her dinner.

Charles looked down at the gerbil and then back at Hermione, "What do gerbils eat? More specifically, what do three-headed gerbils eat?" He pressed his hands to his temples as he tried to think, "I mean...They liked the sandwich that I tried to feed them earlier. Do we just....feed them peanut butter and jelly for the rest of their days?" He smiled and reached into his bag on the floor and pulled out the sandwich again. The gerbil almost growled at him as he put it down in front of them. Then they all started to tear off little pieces and eat them, "There...."

Hermione walked to where Charles had set up the cage and began to put her own touches on it. "I don't think he... they.. should live in this cage like this. I mean look... it's for.... Gerbils," she said transfiguring a few of her already read books into tiny furniture. Then she turned around and faced Charles after a few minutes of turning what was once a cage into a miniature house complete with furniture and decorations.
"Well, I believe they eat nuts as well as fruits and vegetables," she stated as a matter of factly. "My muggle cousin has a hamster. They can't be that different... the hamster and gerbils I mean."

"It likes sandwiches." Charles retaliated and petted the top of the small animal's head, "Plus...I don't think that it needs an entire doll house...I mean, Fluffy lived in a room for an entire year. Do you want him to be spoiled?" He looked down at the gerbil and smiled, "I mean...who am I kidding? Of course I want to spoil you." He was cooing at it like it was a small child, "I love you Hades, Charles Jr., Harold!" He snuggled noses with one of the heads.
